Boca's Attractions & Activities

State park beaches as well as numerous Lee County public beaches provide access to the Gulf of Mexico and the quiet Boca Grande Bayou. The Gasparilla Island State Park Administration of Florida State Parks maintains four beaches on the island. The state park system operates two picnic areas with pavillions for shade and scenic views of the water, with restrooms nearby.

The restored Boca Grande Lighthouse, built in 1890, is another popular site to visit at the south end of the island. It is open from 10AM to 4PM daily, November through April, and Wednesday through Sunday only from May to October.

The Boca Grande Fishing Guides Association has more than 60 professional guides who specialize in all types of fishing. Known by many as the "tarpon Capital of the world," anglers take over Boca Grande in late spring and summer, for some of the best sport fishing around. This title comes from historic major tarpon tournaments, which are usually held between May and July when tarpon migrate to Boca Grande Pass by the thousands. After a disappointing tournament in 2005, the Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce will skip hosting the "World's Richest Tarpon Tournament." However, guides will still hold their tournament for anglers.

Boca Grande has several marinas open for use by boaters, with facilities for everyone from kayakers to powerboaters.
