Boca Grande demographics

June 29, 2009
Gasparilla Gazette
Boca Grande population numbers are estimated from a number of sources, none of them "official." Numbers range from an "in-season" high of 4,500 to 5,000 full- and part-time residents and visitors to an off-season low of 700-800 people. "Season" on Boca Grande is comprised of the winter/spring months with the heaviest months, measured in one way trips over the Boca Grande Causeway, being March, February and April respectively. In March of 2009 alone, more than 100,000 vehicles crossed on to the island, which measures nearly 1 million "to-the-island" trips annually. The slowest months - dubbed "hurricane season" although they are not necessarily the height of the storm season — are August and September.
