On behalf of the Harry Chapin Food Bank, we thank the people of Boca Grande for their very generous donations of food for this year's Christmas Drive. Although the campaign was a mere four weeks, we collected almost 1,400 pounds of food, a remarkable amount for such a short drive, as well as cash donations of more than $600.
This year's need is particularly great, especially in this area of Florida. For the second consecutive year, the Food Bank requested this Christmas Drive as they are again distributing an unprecedented amount of food.
Special thanks to the Baptist, Episcopal and Methodist churches, to Hudson's and to Gill's for their support.
The annual Spring Food Drive will be launched Feb. 1 at the Taste of Boca Grande whose profits support the Food Bank.
