Beloved Boca Grande resident passes

Katherine Hamilton Buchanan, 91, of Lake Forest, Ill., and Boca Grande passed away Jan. 17.

She was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Milwaukee.

She served on the Women's Board at Rush University Medical Center and Children's Memorial Hospital as well as the Guild of the Chicago Historical Society.

Mrs. Buchanan was a member of the, Lake Forest Garden Club, the Antiquarian Society of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Boca Grande.

A woman of great character. Generous of spirit, love and affection. An inspiration to her friends and family. She lived life to the fullest with courage, determination and grace. Loved by all who knew her, hers was truly a life well lived.

Mrs. Buchanan was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt W. Buchanan Jr., and son, Dewitt W. Buchanan III. She is survived by her children, Katherine Reed Berkey and Kenneth H. Buchanan and her grandchildren, John A. Berkey, Mackenzie M. Buchanan, Perrin Berkey Martin and Margaux Buchanan Monahan.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 East Westminster Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045.
