Beautiful Boca Grande has inspired a long line of writers, photographers and other rhapsodizers to compose historical recollections and other forms of tribute.
Now comes the latest book, "hearts of palm, Boca Grande cooks," which promises to be a must-read and required addition to every island library through its unique blend of distinctive island menus, colorful anecdotes and photographs and 15 sharp historical vignettes contributed by island resident Alice Gorman.
The 288-page book contains 277 recipes written by club members and 14 more from island chefs.

The new cookbook from the Boca Grande Woman's Club is titled “hearts of palm, Boca Grande cooks.”
The Art Alliance of Boca Grande contributed to the cookbook with artwork - all of which had to contain a palm tree in some shape or form.
"Every section is spectacular," said Jan Goetcheus.
The book is expected to be made available by mid-October. A first run of 5,000 copies will be stored and sold at the Boca Grande Fire Department for $32.95 apiece.
"It's not just a cookbook," Goetcheus said. "It's a collectable."
The Woman's Club under President Leslie Miller will hold its first meeting of the season Nov. 1. Look for more information on "hearts of palm" soon in the Gasparilla Gazette and Gasparilla Magazine.
