Word on the Island: Why continue to help the Boca Grande Food Drive?

December 27, 2010
Gasparilla Gazette

Joyce Jacobs, Harry Chapin Food Drive director, Fort Myers: "Middle income families are the new faces of poverty. The need is so great and it's not slowing down."

Thor Johnson, organizer, Boca Grande: "About eight or nine years ago, Nick Kaiser and I were involved in a little church food drive. And we said, if we're going to do this, let's do it right. You've got to give back. We've been given so much."

The Rev. Brian Brightly, United Methodist Church, Boca Grande: "Jesus says whatever you do unto the least of my brothers you do unto me. If we don't reach beyond our walls, we're not fulfilling our Biblical mission."
