James. G. Webb, 62

James G. Webb, 62, of Boca Grande died Jan. 31.

Born June 18, 1948, in Veblen S.D., Webb is known on Boca Grande for a three-decade career at the Gasparilla Inn & Club.

A memorial service service was held Feb. 8 at the Beach Club of the Gasparilla Inn. Inurnment will be held later in Cayuga, N.D. Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Englewood is in charge of cremation arrangements.

Survivors include three brothers, Duane, Dale and Walter; and a sister, Wanda Kenney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia and Ross Webb; a sister, Dorothy Sutton; and an infant brother.

He attended school in North Dakota and graduated from Brainerd High School in Minnesota. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving three years, including a tour in Korea.

Webb then owned and operated Brainerd Optical where he was active in the Republican Party and civic organizations.

He moved to Florida in 1974 and began work in the hospitality industry at Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, N.Y., during the summer months when the Gasparilla Inn was closed. He worked full-time at the Gasparilla Inn beginning in 1981.

Memorials can be made to the American Lung Association.
