Loving, gentle and brilliant, he was always ready to lend a hand or share his knowledge with others. McCall was the eternal optimist and a connoisseur of life. Aside from his family, he loved his art and the art of others and was committed to helping the Arts Alliance of Lemon Bay.
He was community minded and was president of the Old Englewood Village Association for a year helping promote and better Englewood. He received an award for most improved property on Dearborn Street.
McCall also taught carving classes at Ringling School of Art and he held private seminars teaching gold leafing and other restorers' art techniques.
He is survived by his wife, Sandie, and his children: daughter Kate McCall Bunton, son Taylor McCall, mother Verna McCall Gibble, and brother, Barry McCall and family.
In lieu of flowers donations to Arts Alliance of Lemon Bay for the Gene McCall Artistic Scholarship Fund would be greatly appreciated.
