Word on the Island: Are you spending more or less on vacation this year?

Kailey Master, North Port, Red Lobster employee: “I'm spending more. Everything is more expensive. I'm older so I don't lean on my parents. I don't ask them for a dime.”

Eric Harstshorn, North Port, Red Lobster employee: “I'm only 19 so I'm spending about the same. Gas is ridiculous though.”



Don Mayhew, Martha's Vineyard, Calif., plumber: “Same as always. I'm not going to let the recession stop me on my vacation.”



Don Allison, Canfield, Ohio, autoworker: “Probably more. I brought all my kids this year. We're enjoying ourselves, I can tell you that.”



Larry Bien, Oxford,Mich., skilled tradesman for Chrysler: "I would say more. Gas costs more and everybody has less money.”
