Born on May 2, 1933, in Flint, Mich., McWhirter came to this area 20 years ago from Naperville, Ill., He was a tool and die supervisor with General Motors.
He is survived by his wife, Jo; son, Andy of Aurora, Ill.; daughter, Crislyn Parker of Fortuna, Calif.; sister, Mary Kouyoumdzoglou of Greece; six grandchildren, Justin, Lynsey, Meagan, Alec, Mike and Jon; and three great grandchildren..
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
