Picturesque Art in Palms Festival offers unique talent

October 24, 2011
Gasparilla Gazette

It's one of the most picturesque of all art shows or festivals.

The 16th annual Art in the Palms Festival is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Palm Island ferry landing.

It's a perennially well-attended art festival featuring 50 artists from as far away as Minnesota and Colorado, as well as many celebrated and talented local artists. There will also be a silent auction, live music by RPM, food, wine and beer.

"The event's popularity continues to grow as new and seasoned visitors come for the day to enjoy the ambiance of the island," said Cathy Crowe, event spokeswoman. "Step off the brief five-minute ferry ride to this bridgeless barrier island and you're strolling among the palm trees and sand, while allowing the music and atmosphere to entice you to relax and enjoy the day."

A $2 donation for the ferry ride benefits the Palm Island Estates Association's nonprofit projects: Wildlife and Habitat Preservation Program, Gopher Tortoise Relocation Team, Island Kids Scholarship Fund and Sea Turtle Patrol. Entry to the festival is free.
