The Boca Grande Art Alliance has selected Dianna Shandorf as its Artist of the Month.
Shandorf believes in pastels and still lifes.
"I paint with pastel because, for me, it is the perfect way to combine drawing and color," she said. "Pastel reflects light brilliantly, is tremendously versatile and is easy to revise.

"Nature's complexity and abundance provide unending resources for painting. I paint from a desire not to copy nature but to thoroughly see and be connected with it. The challenge is to simplify what is at times overwhelming into a coherent and believable composition that can be enjoyed for its own sake."
Shandorf said she also enjoys the formal challenge of creating still life compositions, combining natural objects with pots and fabrics collected over many years.
"As objects, these things have emotional or symbolic qualities, but are equally important as shapes that interact with each other and the light falling on them."
