The Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles reports Charlotte County has 23 vehicle deaths so far this year compared with 21 for all of last year.
In its last motor safety sweep of the year, the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office will pay special attention to speeding through Jan. 1 on Gulfstream Boulevard in Englewood East and Edgewater Drive in Port Charlotte.
Traffic signals will be closely monitored at the intersection of State Road 776 and Beach Road.
