Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives report the man wanted for stabbing a North Port man at 12:50 a.m. Christmas morning in Port Charlotte turned himself in at 9:45 p.m. Thursday at the Charlotte County Jail.
Leon Akeem Mercurius, 23, 17940 Murdock Circle, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Bond was set at $100,000.
According to the arrest warrant, a "customer appreciation" party was held at the Caribbean Oriental Grocery, 2745 Tamiami Trail. An argument ensued between Mercurius and 42-year-old Sean Maitland.

Outside in front of the store, Mercurius allegedly used a knife with a 6-inch blade to stab Maitland in the stomach. Mercurius got into a blue Honda driven by a woman and left the area prior to deputy's arrival. A Charlotte County Fire/EMS unit transported Maitland to Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers for emergency surgery.
