8 pounds cocaine taken off streets

January 19, 2012
Gasparilla Gazette

A highway interdiction detective and his assigned K9 partner made a major cocaine seizure on Interstate 75 northbound near mile marker 146 at 11 p.m. Tuesday after stopping a 2008 Chevrolet Impala for following too closely and a broken tail light.

Police report the driver had a suspended driver's license and said she was traveling from the Miami area to the St. Petersburg area. A free air sniff of the car resulted in a positive alert being received.

A search of the trunk allegedly turned up 3.5 kilograms (8 pounds) of compressed cocaine, with a street value of approximately $125,000.
