William Anthony Pickowitz Jr. of Rotunda West died Tuesday, Feb. 8.

The son of William Anthony and Victoria Pickowitz was born Dec. 5, 1943, in Montville, Conn., and attended St. Bernard High School in New London, Conn., graduating in 1962.

A Vietnam veteran, he spent most of his working career in New London and Wethersfield, Conn.

In the late 1980s, he retired from Connecticut Light & Power after 24 years of service. He then moved to warm and sunny Florida, a lifelong dream.?

Passionate about music, particularly jazz, he spent most of his free time dedicated to the art. He was editor of the Hartford Jazz Society's newsletter for a time and enthusiastically worked on programs to support and promote live jazz.

As director of the Charlotte County Jazz Society in Port Charlotte, he wrote concert reviews and developed budgets up until the time of his death. He will be greatly missed by the Society.

Many of his friends and family will attest that he was happiest when tapping his foot to the rhythm of jazz and blues. It was the love of his life.?

Pickowitz loved family and always made an effort to keep in contact with those close to him. For several years he was the primary caretaker for his parents and aunt. His undying devotion and sacrifice for their care set a wonderful example.?

He took life seriously, having strongly held beliefs about family, life, and politics. Yet, in his light-hearted moments he had a wonderful sense of humor and maintained an endearing spirit that brought smiles to all who knew him.?

He is survived by his mother, Victoria Tyrsek Pickowitz; aunt, Veronica Thibeault; and many cousins.

Burial services will be private. Funeral arrangements will be made by Kays - Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Port Charlotte Chapel. Interment will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood.?
