February 26, 2012
Gasparilla Gazette

Mary Ellen Flanagan, founder of the Newport, R.I.-based landscape design company, MEF Design, will discuss "The Five P's of Gardening on Boca Grande" at the March 7 meeting of the Boca Grande Garden Club.

Her talk will include landscape design tactics she has used on Boca Grande properties, including some included in the April Home Tour for members. The University of Rhode Island graduate has completed many landscape designs in her hometown of Newport, as well as the Virgin Islands and Florida.

Collaboration on residential, commercial and historical landscapes earned her positions on several boards and design review committees, including the board of the Blithwold Gardens and Arboretum in Bristol, R.I., the Cultural Landscape Foundation in Washington, D.C., and several chapters of the American Society of Landscape Architects, once serving as president of its Rhode Island Chapter.
