Charlotte County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit detectives arrested Jose Antonio Rodriguez, 28, 2149 Green St., Port Charlotte, after he allegedly fired at least four shots at an SUV just before 8 p.m. Friday.
A woman with her boyfriend and mother said they were heading home when a white Ford Excursion with five occupants began following them to Florida Street and East Marion Avenue at a stop sign. A Hispanic male got out, approached them and said, "Do you have that?" then showed a handgun and began firing at them. No one was injured but the vehicle was struck by deflecting rounds. The driver immediately took off and fled the area.
The SUV followed the suspects south on U.S. 41 at speeds of 95 mph but lost them in North Ft. Myers. The woman told police she knew the man who fired at them only as Jose.

CCSO dispatch then received a call from a man named Jose who complained about a white SUV and a gun. Dispatchers linked thee phone number to Rodriguez and he remains in the Charlotte County Jail on $17,000 bond.
