This is the 20-year anniversary of the Hank Wright Golf Tourney and Auction, which is named after Dr. Hank Wright, the revered long-time head of the Boca Grande Health Clinic.
The event benefits the clinic through its Boca Grande Clinic Foundation, which runs it.
The event has received tremendous, enthusiastic support from the community in the 20 years of its existence by raising more than $1 million over the years to help cover annual losses that exceed $1 million annually.

I am frequently asked why the clinic has annual loses of this magnitude. The answer is simple: The health care landscape has changed radically on many fronts ranging from increased costs of operations and insurance and lower reimbursement. It is also expensive to provide the breadth of clinic services.
Our clinic delivers friendly, caring, convenient, highly professional health care and maintenance services for the Boca Grande community 24/7, 365 days a year.
It has a medical staff of three highly trained doctors, including two internists from the Mayo Clinic, and a board-certified gynecologist. They are supported by efficiently and friendly nurses, including an X-ray technologist.

A highly qualified and experienced health care administrator runs the clinic in John Sielert.
The clinic also operates the Clinic Annex, which provides space for visiting specialist physicians and other health care and maintenance options, including physical therapy. These on-island services are highly convenient for Boca residents but also consume revenues.
The clinic also provides quality referral services through doctors and institutions stretching from Sarasota to Naples.
This advanced level of services does not come without cost. It is what causes our annual deficit.
The sole purpose of the Boca Grande Health Foundation, the Hank Wright tourney sponsor, is to ensure the financial wellbeing of the clinic by funding its growing "Campaign for the Future" endowment as well as generating income from our annual appeal and special events such as the Hank Wright Tourney and Auction.
The Hank Wright Tourney and Auction is a vital piece of the annual funding needs of our clinic, while at the same time bringing the community together for a fun event.
Having an outstanding health care provider on-island permits us to live here with peace of mind knowing, should a health care need arise for us or our families, the clinic will be here for to meet our needs.
Thanks to all who have participated in the tourney over the years. Together, we make the Clinic work.
