Victimizing aunt spurs 19 felony charges

Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested Harry Alexander Beatty, 21, 20526 Midway Boulevard, Port Charlotte, for pawning jewelry he stole from his aunt after she took him in to help out when he got out of jail Dec. 22, 2011.

Beatty was charged with 19 felony counts and remains in jail on $249,500 bond.

The victim called CCSO April 17 to report her nephew had stolen more than $5,000 of her jewelry over a period of time and pawned it for drug money.

She told detectives Beatty left Port Charlotte and was in the Tampa area. Detectives located the victim's jewelry at three Port Charlotte pawn brokers. As per state law, Beatty provided a copy of his driver's license and fingerprint on all transactions. The victim identified all of the jewelry detectives located.

Beatty turned himself in to detectives Monday and was charged with nine counts dealing in stolen property, nine counts false verification of ownership, and grand theft.
