Carmi Kansman, 83, passed away Sunday, May 6, at home in Englewood.
Born March 18, 1929, in Detroit to John and Marie (Marwitz), his early years were split between Detroit and Englewood, where he attended Englewood Elementary in the 1930s.
He served in the U.S. Army in the late '40s, then spent many years in the Merchant Marines before settling in Detroit.
He moved to Englewood full time in the early '70s to open and run the Carmelle vacation apartments on Lemon Bay.?
He is survived by his son, Eric Kansman; cousins, Harry Kansman and Elsie Ilgner, and many friends who enjoyed his gentle nature, earthy sense of humor and colorful stories of faraway lands. He was also a gifted gardener and nature lover. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who touched his life.
Inurnment will be held at Gulf Pines Memorial Park, Englewood, at a later date.
