The switchover to the temporary bridge next to the soon-to-be demolished South Bridge has been pushed back one week to June 8.
There's no holdup in overall progress. On Day 80 of the 630-day bridge project schedule, Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority Director Jim Cooper said work remains on schedule.
Paving the temporary road access on both sides is planned next week. The switchover date the detour steel deck South Bridge will open for two-lane traffic is now Friday, June 8.

The speed limit will remain 15 mph and speed bumps will remain as long as the detour bridge is in place. No pedestrian traffic will be allowed on the detour South Bridge.

Twelve new Orion Concrete Production Center Bridge concrete pilings arrive today, May 24. Twelve pilings will be driven 100-feet deep and set for each pier.
