WalMart arrest on McCall brings 7 charges

Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies arrested Gardens of Gulf Cove man June 1 on seven charges after he allegedly tried to fraudulently return merchandise at the Englewood Wal-Mart Supercenter.

John Anthony Porter, 26, of 13325 Buckett Circle, was arrested on charges including criminal use of personal identification, possession of cocaine, petty theft, resisting a merchant and trespassing after warning.

A Wal-Mart employee told police he noticed Porter selecting items, which he took to the Customer Service Desk for a refund. When employees approached Porter for identification, he allegedly provided a Florida ID card in a different name and then tried to run out the front door. Employees detained him and police say they found a baggie with numerous pills in his pocket.

Responding deputies recognized Porter and knew there were warrants for his arrest.Charges on the warrants included failure to appear and violation of probation. He is being held without bond on the warrant charges.
