Cynthia P. Sheik, 32, was arrested and charged with robbery/grand theft after hiring a taxi cab about 11 p.m. Saturday to go to the Race Trac, 4968 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte.
She allegedly demanded money from the register, the clerk complied and no weapons were involved.
A Punta Gorda police officer on a traffic stop near the scene answered a call from the taxi driver who said he felt Sheik might not pay him for the ride.

Sheik allegedly exited the store with the money unaware an alarm had been triggered. The $320 stolen was recovered by police and no one injured during the robbery.
