June 19, 2012
Gasparilla Gazette

Charlotte County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit detectives arrested a Venice man Monday on an arrest warrant stemming from an alleged March 13 drug deal in Port Charlotte.

Lashawn Juan "Hercules" Mitchell, 31, 6372 Lapidus Road, North Port, is charged with sale and delivery of cocaine, possession of cocaine, fleeting to elude law enforcement officers and habitual driving while license revoked.

Mitchell allegedly set up a drug purchase with undercover narcotics detective in a gas station parking lot at 829 Tamiami Trail near the Charlotte-Sarasota county line. Mitchell drove up to a gas pump in a gray Chevrolet Silverado pickup, cash for cocaine was exchanged and Mitchell sped off at a high rate of speed. Marked units followed the pickup but broke off after a brief pursuit and notified North Port Police.

The pickup was located the next day when NPPD received a suspicious vehicle call that matched the description of Mitchell's pickup. Police located the locked pickup at a business parked off Toledo Blade about 4 miles from where the drug deal occurred in Charlotte County.

On June 14, a CCSO detective with the Fugitive Apprehension Unit assisted the Sarasota County Warrants Unit in arresting Mitchell at 548 Briarwood St., Venice.

Mitchell remains in the Charlotte County Jail on no bond.
