Stolen fake check lands North Port woman in jail

Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested a North Port woman Tuesday after she allegedly tried to deposit a counterfeit $9,719 U.S. Treasury check into a checking account in Port Charlotte.

Kaylee Liana Sanchez, 28, 1789 Raywood Ave., was charged with uttering a counterfeit check, possession of a counterfeit check and fake driver's license, criminal use of personal identification, resisting arrest and giving false name to a law enforcement officer.

CCSO received a call from Regions Bank, 24153 Peachland Blvd., at 1 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a fraud complaint.

Sanchez reportedly stole the counterfeit check at a friend's Rotonda-area home last month. That investigation continues.

Sanchez was transported to the Charlotte County Jail and bond set at $12,000.
