Edith Goodwin Silcox of Boca Grande was released from her earthly bonds July 29 at the age of 81 to be with her heavenly father.
Daughter of Scottish immigrants, Harry and Christina Goodwin, she was born May 7, 1931, in Medford, Mass., the third of six children.
She came to Boca Grande June 25, 1949, to marry the love of her life, Jack Silcox, who preceded her death in 2001. Edith's passing on Jack's birthday shows their eternal love and bond.
She is survived by daughters, Jackie (Kerry) Fogarty of Englewood and Rebecca (Leif) Marten of Excelsior, Minn.; foster daughter, Ruth Levins Mixon of Arcadia; four grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edith was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Boca Grande and a well-known resident of the island.
A memorial/life celebration service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at the First Baptist Church of Boca Grande.
