Charlotte County Sheriff's detectives arrested a man Wednesday who reportedly had 19 altered credit cards, several gift cards, credit card-making equipment and a skimming device in his pickup.
Purchases were made at Wal-Mart stores in Venice and Sarasota prior to his arrest at the Englewood Wal-Mart. Carlon Denard Davis, 36, 1264 Myopia Hunt Drive, Auburndale, faces six felony charges of fraudulent use of credit cards, forgery of credit cards, use of a scanning device, possession of credit card-making equipment and grand theft.
Wal-Mart security called CCSO at 3 p.m. suspecting a customer made 10 suspicious credit card purchases with 10 different Discovery cards in the store amounting to $1,540. Security followed Davis out to his Ford pickup and obtained a detailed description of the vehicle and license number. Deputies arrested Davis as he was pulling out of the parking lot.

A search of Davis' pickup allegedly found the equipment plus several gift cards and receipts for items purchased earlier from the two Sarasota County Wal-mart stores. The 19 credit cards found all were found to have been re-encoded with different banks and account numbers.
Davis remains in jail on no bond due to numerous felony convictions in other Florida counties, police say.
