Karl Furniss of Englewood passed away at home Aug. 16 with his family by his side.
Born June 15, 1934, in Cleveland to Harold and Maxine Furniss, he graduated from Avon Lake High School in 1952 and was a member of the original six-man football team.
In 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Sellen, joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean War.?

After discharge, he worked for Sherwin Williams as a printing pressman in North Olmstead before moving his family to Englewood in 1976 where he purchased and operated The 77 General Store with his wife until selling the store in 1984.
He then enjoyed a career as a finish carpenter and was proud of his many projects on Boca Grande.
He was preceded in death by Betty, his wife of 55 years; a sister, Marilyn Bommer; and his parents.

He is survived by his children, Robert Furniss, Jennifer Nemes (Bryan), Kevin Furniss (Amy); daughter-in-law, Debbie Furniss; grandchildren, Shanna, Joshua and Matthew Furniss and Casandra Nemes; three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his canine companions, Dixie and Schatzi.?
