To the Editor:
Regarding Connie Mack's letter on Sen. Bill Nelson's record: I've known Nelson for more than 15 years - and his record is very clear.
He's fought to expand the middle class, protect and preserve Social Security and Medicare, and strengthen our national security. In short, he's an unrelenting advocate for all Floridians.
Nelson has served his community, state and country in the Senate, and six years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve.
And here are just a few things he's done for Florida while in the Senate:
n prevented oil companies from drilling in vital military training areas off Florida's Gulf Coast;
n fought for restoring the Everglades;
n passed a law to send BP fines directly to the communities harmed by the Gulf oil spill; and,
n co-authored the blueprint to revitalize the nation's deep-space exploration program after the Space Shuttle's retirement.
Fact is, Bill Nelson always puts Florida first.
