Fall Golf Scramble thanks

October 23, 2012
Gasparilla Gazette

I would like to thank everyone for their participation and support of the Boca Grande Area Chamber of Commerce 2012 Fall Golf Scramble at the Gasparilla Golf Club.

This annual event is the heart and life blood of our Chamber Scholarship Fund and for the seventh year in a row our community has stepped up and made it an incredible success.

This event enables us to not only continue offering aid to students we have already committed to, but allows us to offer new local high school graduates the opportunity to apply for scholarship next year as well.

We had a wonderful day on the golf course. Congratulations to all the winners. The weather cooperated brilliantly as a great time was had by all.

As with any large event, many people put in countless volunteer hours and donate services to make sure everything runs smoothly.

I would like to thank our title sponsors Gasparilla Properties and Grande Aire Services for their continued support and leadership year after year. Key Agency, McHugh-Porter Builders, Englewood Community Hospital, Gulf to Bay Sotheby's, Boca Grande Real Estate, Michael J. Looney Electrical, Innovative Marine Structures LLC, Dr.'s Forster, Davis, Roberts & Boelle, Five Star Plumbing, Seale Family Realtors, Hudson's Grocery, Tim Dumas of Merrill Lynch & Co., The Boca Grande Club, The Boca Beacon, All Phase Homes, Sun Tech Builders, Bowen Construction, South Beach Bar & Grille and the Barnichol were all critical to this tournament's success with their generosity and support with sponsorships.

Caddy Carts came through again with the donation of a 'Hole in One' prize of a brand new golf cart and supplied the staff with the use of two refreshment carts for the day.

Special thanks to those who donated live auction items: Caroline Clark of Cavana Classic Charters, Useppa Inn, The Gasparilla Inn & Club and Coral Creek Club.

Our local restaurants pitched in with food for the awards reception where golfers were treated to culinary delights from The Loose Caboose, Sister's Restaurant, The Temptation, PJ's Seagrille, Eagle Grille, South Beach Bar & Grill, The Pink Elephant and the Gasparilla Inn.

Our volunteer staff from Gasparilla Properties, Lemon Bay Conservancy, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Englewood Hospital, Englewood Bank, the Englewood/Cape Haze Chamber of Commerce and the Boca Grande Fire Department helped make sure we were well staffed for registration, staging of banners and signs and serving snacks and refreshments all afternoon. As always, they step up to help when I only have two hands and need many more.

Most of all, we would not be able hold this incredible event if it were not for President and General Manager Jack and his amazing staff at the Gasparilla Inn & Club. Damioli, head golf professional Robert Duke, director of food and beverage Jon Reecher and Chamber President Richy Edwards staffed the planning committee that put it all together. Their dedication to the scholarship fund cannot be overstated, nor can I thank them enough for all they have done to ensure its success.

This event truly is community fueled, funded and supported by everyone for the benefit of our young people and ultimately our future.
