To the Editor:
Every year, thanks to the generous donations of many organizations, businesses and individuals, children around Gasparilla Island are able to go Christmas shopping at Wal-Mart accompanied by Charlotte County sheriff's deputies, police officers and other law enforcement officials.
This year, as with most years, additional donations are made by shoppers who notice what is going on and want to help.
Louis Gemma, 5, of Englewood donates $50 to Capt. James Kenville, and receives a Sheriff’s Office Community Challenge Coin from Chief Deputy Bill Prummell with Santa looking on.
At a recent Shop with a Cop event at the Englewood Wal-Mart, 5-year-old Louis Gemma of Englewood, made a special trip to make a donation. He saved his money throughout the year to be able to give $50 to the Shop with a Cop program so some other boy or girl could get a present.
