The Smart Studio on Boca Grande is showing a new painting series by Wini Smart titled, "Return to?the Everglades," based on her fifth painting trip to the famed swamp.
" like to go in December when the mosquito season is over," Smart said.
She stays in Everglade City and each day drives to a new painting area.

Wini Smart, who has operated a Boca Grande business since 1981, nearly paid a price while painting “Silent Swimmer.”
"There is much quiet beauty in the Glades: the wide-open space, rich?vegetation, abundant wildlife and always a wonderful sky. By staying several days I can get to see the area in its many moods."
Her process involves sitting quietly to hear as well as see "the wonder that is there." Smart, whose studio is located at 370 Park Ave. in Boca Grande, almost paid a price for her craft.
"I'll have to admit it is a bit unnerving to have an alligator cruising within a few feet," she said. "In the case of 'Silent Swimmer,' I sat on a dock so thought I was safe.
