Cadillac smash-and-grab jewelry heist probed

Lee County sheriff's detectives are searching for the man who broke into a jewelry store by ramming a Cadillac through the front door.

Deputies were called to Provident Jewelry, 15245 South Tamiami Trail, at 4:30 a.m. Jan. 30 about a burglary. The front door to the store was severely damaged.

Surveillance video shows a white Cadillac backing through the front door and a suspect going from case to case, smashing the glass and taking jewelry. The suspect appears to be a white male wearing all black clothing with a black mask over his face and white gloves.

A vehicle matching the description was later recovered at the intersection of Exchange Lane and Trader Street in Fort Myers.It had been stolen from a residence in the Bellasol community.
