Kids Needs finds Boca Grande generosity

February 11, 2013
Gasparilla Gazette

The St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Boca Grande continues to be the answer for Kids Needs.

Audrey Knapp of Kids' Needs Advisory Committee said the St. Andrews Outreach Committee, including Carol Johnson, Sue Gray, Jo Brookhart and Audrey Knapp, have stepped in to help students in need of school supplies.

Soon, Boca Grande residents went shopping for sneakers and clothing to give to Kids' Needs of Greater Englewood, which distributes shoes, clothing, toiletries and school supplies to qualified boys and girls in grades K-12.

Nearly 60 percent of students in Englewood public schools are on reduced and free lunch programs, more than 200 participate in "weekend backpack" food programs and 50 are identified as homeless.

Kids' Needs, a nonprofit, 501(c)3 volunteer group, provides basic necessities, supports a school lunch assistance program, helps graduating students afford caps and gowns and pays for uniforms and certification exams for qualified dual enrollment students (Lemon Bay High School and culinary or nursing school).

Pressing needs include school supplies and backpacks, new toiletries, hipsters and boxer/briefs underwear and low-cut socks for boys and girls in all sizes.

Drop off donations at St. Andrews Church or Key Agency on Boca Grande or mail tax-deductible contributions to Kids' Needs, 1201 S. McCall Rd., Englewood FL 34223.
