3rd St. Café reports two stolen checks

A suspect who stole two blank checks from 3rd St. Caf, 310 E. Railroad Ave., in Boca Grande, allegedly was caught on camera cashing one of them later for $200 at Englewood Bank & Trust.

Owner Alex Herrman reported Wednesday, Feb. 6, his manager discovered the thefts after returning from a weeklong trip. The manager's name was forged on the check.

Alison Henderson, the EB&T manager, alertly recovered the unsigned check when the suspect came in Feb. 1 to cash the forged check. The incident was videotaped.

The bank and Herrman told Lee County Deputy First Class Chris Nebel they want to prosecute. The name of the suspect was blacked out on the police report.
