The Jenkins float carried the day at the 28th annual Boca Grande Community Center Bike Path Parade Saturday as the Best Group while The Island School scored Best in Show.

First-place group entrants included Grace Wikenheiser, Kitty Jenkins, Laine Jenkins and Claire Wikenheiser pursued by fearsome "shark" Ben Wikenheiser.

"It turned out to be a great event for island residents and visitors," said organizer Joe Wier. " There were 37 entries in the parade and a ton of spectators."

Wier, supervisor for Lee County Parks & Recreation, credited the Gasparilla Improvement & Conservation Association, The Boca Grande Woman's Club, Friends of Boca Grande Community Center and Lee County Parks & Recreation for making the event possible.

"I want to thank the Boca Grande Fire Department, Lee County Sheriff's Department and all of the wonderful volunteers who made this event safe and enjoyable for the community," he said.

He gave a special thank you to judges Lo Lo Weir, Larry Warner, Misty Nichols, John Mendez and Bill Winterer.

'They did a fabulous job judging the event," Wier said.
