I was over at the breakfast at the Methodist Church Thursday morning and was visiting with a young couple from Newport, RI. With a 9-month-old little boy they call "Doc" (for gunslinger Doc Holliday), they're on a mission to raise awareness about noise pollution -- especially leaf blowers -- and chemical pollution -- spraying lawns, shrubs, flowers, etc. Back in Newport, the landscape companies offer a "green" program where leaf blowing and spraying are done on an as-needed basis instead of routinely done on a weekly basis. Sounds good to me. Is there a downside? Is it really essential to maintain an impeccable yard -- at the expense of air, soil and water pollution? --Your island writer Member CommentsNo comments posted for this topic. Post a Comment |
